TXSTATE University 2021 BMU Induction Bond 1

Texas State University Black Men United (BMU) Organization debuted for 2021’s TXST Fall Semester on September 18th. When we first met The President he had a vision for what the Executive Board (E-Board) would look like along with a line of events, but mostly Homecoming, and their Bond 1 Induction.

Yea I know you heard Drake give shouts to HBCU TSU “not Tennessee State” says @billysorrels (TSU Alumni and Wild N’ Out Comedian) and Jackson State University but sister school Of TSU — Texas State University, were more than live and the football team brought home the win V. ULM.

What is #BLKtxst or #Blacktxt?

#Blacktxst is collective embodiment of the underrepresented and underserved black students of Texas State University.

  • What has it done? #Blacktxst has a long standing social media and active student body presence of over 10 years. With black student enrollment up to 11% — 4,000 out of 38,000 black student enrolled, a collective embodiment is here for representation.
  • What are the relations? #blacktxst holds events, empowers organizations and provides resources. Organizations from the divine 9 fraternities and sororities, (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.). Black Student Organizations like Naturally Y.O.U, Women of Gold, Black Women United, Black Men United, Black Presidents Council, Hip Hop Council, Black Student Alliance, and more. Together the collectives, along with other organizations on campus, come together and host events for campus engagement.

TXSTATE’s BMU debut would include their first event “Bring Your Own Business” with Black Owned seed start-up Check App. “Check is a web based app that provides safety and accountability, using video chat at the initial encounter of a traffic stop” says guest speaker Michael Odiari during TedTalk with BMU and guest.

From collaborations with other Black Organizations like Black Women United, Naturally Y.O.U, The Women of Gold, The Black President’s Council, Hip Hop Council, and Black Student Alliance and more! With highlight events like the “Tailgate Day Party,” “Karaoke Night,” “Relationship Edition: The In’s and Out’s of Realistic College Relationships” “Pie In The Face.”

Karaoke Night was a fan favorite, where many attendees got to have fun trying to sing. And some stealing the show, many didn’t expect. Turning the event into a showcase.

Relationship Edition was definitely a win for the girls. As the event would include a 6 person panel of 3 BMU E-Board members and 3 Naturally Y.O.U E-Board members. Where topics on Kahoot were shown on screen where they could engage with the panel for a heated and some say “one sided” conversation.

The charity event: Pie In The Face would also go viral on Snapchat. Where E-Board members got pies splattered on faces. And unfortunately for members, donors got to choose who to pie. Needles to say one of our very own BMU E-Board members were a fan favorite.

For the vision and plan for BMU, we originally asked Niko (2021–2022 BMU President) 5 questions.

First, “What’s your vision for BMU?”

Second, “Do you think the school is disproportionately funded/represented?”

Third, “As president, what is a major goal for BMU?”

Fourth, “How can students support BMU?”

Fifth, “Is there a standard being TXST BMU?”

Check out the presidents responses in the article: “Black Men United 2021 Debut”

If you’re still curious on the outcome, just know BMU set the the standard for Texas State University #Blacktxst. And since we at it, they really set the tone for TXST Homecoming. From the events, to the knowledge given in business and life skill, students and attendees were left with a lasting impression.

Let’s talk Homecoming. When it comes to Homecoming, some schools just show up and show out, that’s what they do! Like mentioning again our sister school TSU (Texas Southern University). They’re main event “Back To The Yard Party” went viral on @theshaderoom. With head coach Deon Sanders of Jackson State University winning their first Homecoming game since 2018. We didn’t forget you Tennessee State University. The main event was crazy! From the marching band to “Roaring Loud Fest” to Sada Baby, Chief Keef and so and so. However.

Back to the main event, Texas State University #Blacktxst went viral this semester in itself. For TXST main events Homecoming Game winning 27–19 V. ULM. BMU intramural football team (a series of football games versus other student organizations) where there would also bring home a championship. With an undefeated record of 8–0.

TXST Tailgate Day Party would include @Djarro on the 1’s and 2’s and not to mention the after party - The Climax. The Climax was a legendary party for the campus where many students and locals 18+ got a chance to attend. The stage was filed with smoke filters and a large venue, the party kicked off. Many showed up and showed out. Some should have stayed home or showered first, but “at least it didn’t smell like fish” pun intended.

#Blacktxst definitely showed up this year. And with BMU making noise on campus, the student organization set way for they’re Bond One Induction. With much support from other Black Student Organizations, BMU would successfully induct over 40 Black Male Students. Making history in student organizations. The Bond Induction would soon go “viral” on Twitter and Instagram @txstatebmu, amongst campus, student organizations, #blacktxst, and even some fraternities and sororities.
